When we talk about Internet Marketing you will often hear the term Search Engine Marketing. Although the term Search Engine Market should encompass all the Search Engine Marketing Techniques, including Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Advertising (SEA), it’s usually referred to the latter: the paid advertising techniques on search engines like Bing and Google.

Back in the days, it was quite easy to promote your business online as everything related to search engine optimization would come under Search Engine Marketing, but things have changed a lot these days.

There are different methods used in SEM and in this post we will have a quick look at them.

Pay-per-click (PPC)

PPC is the most common method used in SEM and it stands for Pay Per Click. PPC is a business model that is used to bring in more leads for any business or website. Most search engines place the advertisement on the top of the page or any other location that depends on a particular search engine. PPC works on bidding system and the person who places the highest bid on a keyword gets the first position. Hence, it helps in getting more leads or customers.

You might also like to know that there is another method of marketing tool named as Pay Per Call. This is similar to PPC, but the only difference is that the person has to pay only when they get a call from the generated click. This is basically for smartphone users, but it shows promises for the coming future. We hope to see this form of marketing getting popular in the future.

CPMCost per Mille

Apart from PPC, CPM is also one of the most used methods of SEM. Full form of CPM is Cost per thousand impressions. Whenever an advertisement is displayed on the computer screen, an impression is counted. Even if you don’t click on it, an impression will be counted. So, if you want to launch a CPM campaign, then you will have to decide the number of times you want the advertisement to be displayed. This has to be done in multiples of thousand. The disadvantage of this method is that you pay even when no click is generated.

Search Engine Marketing is getting more famous as more websites pop up every single day. The Internet is getting big and competition is quite high for keywords. But if someone opts for search engine marketing along with normal SEO, then they will be more successful. Just make sure that you put efforts to make perfect advertisements that will yield better results. You can opt for PPC or CPM but focus on the quality of your advertisement that will stand out of the crowd. Once you have compelling ads, your website will definitely get more views.
